Winterthur, August 2018 - At this year's Fakuma, the Kistler Group will showcase its portfolio of Industry 4.0 products tailored to the specific needs of plastics processors. At stand 3104 in hall A3, the main focus will be on the modular structure of Kistler's solutions: users can assemble precisely the package they need to enhance transparency and boost efficiency in their production.
Consistent digitization of production and the processes it involves continues to be a key issue in the plastics processing industry. For many years now, the Kistler Group has offered digital process control and monitoring solutions that are specifically developed for injection molding production. The result: superior product quality and improved cost-effectiveness in production. At this year's Fakuma, the Swiss measurement technology experts will simultaneously unveil two highly flexible modular solutions. As well as the most advanced version of the ComoNeo process monitoring system, visitors to the trade fair can inspect the entry-level and full versions of Kistler's Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
Kistler firmly believes that Industry 4.0 begins at the heart of every production plant – with the sensors that measure and analyze cavity pressure during injection molding. ComoNeo, the system developed in-house at Kistler, handles monitoring of the production processes. Version 3.0 offers users a total of seven different functions from which they can assemble the combination that best suits their requirements for assistance, monitoring, control and prediction.
"ComoNeo, our multifunctional process monitoring system, provides the basis for intelligent injection molding production with optimal results in terms of product quality as well as cost efficiency," according to Dr. Robert Vaculik, Head of Kistler's Strategic Business Field Plastics. Thanks to the system's modular structure, users can tailor the support they receive to their level of know-how. And now, Kistler has integrated the Stasa QC software into ComoNeo as a practical tool to meet the special needs of manufacturers of high-grade components in the medical technology industry and other sectors where safety is critical. On the basis of measured values and statistical analyses, this software calculates the quality of manufactured parts in advance, with evaluations inside the tolerance limits.
Kistler's MES also features a modular structure. Various modules that can be combined with each other ensure maximum transparency in networked injection molding production. Users can choose either the entry-level or the full version – and in each case, they themselves can decide on the scope and depth of their solution. The focus is on intuitive user guidance that makes it easier for employees to advance towards Industry 4.0. Because production processes are continuously recorded and monitored, faults and malfunctions are now identified more quickly so that remedial action can be taken.
As well as Machine and Operation Data Acquisition, users can choose freely from function modules such as Production Planning, Maintenance Management and ERP-Link. Additional production processes can be digitized with modules such as Batch Traceability or Workstation-based Staff Time Logging. Older machines can also be connected to the MES, either via a PLC or with the help of a master computer interface.
The Kistler Group has taken another step in the consistent expansion of its Industry 4.0 expertise by acquiring IOS GmbH, which has traded as Kistler Aachen GmbH since June 2018. The MES developed by IOS is especially suitable for use in the plastics processing industry. This is a sector where Kistler can draw on experience garnered from numerous systems that have already been installed, as Head of Sales Dr. Oliver Schnerr emphasizes: "Our goal is to offer our customers one single source for everything they need to maximize cost-effectiveness and transparency in their production operations.
