jBEAM changelog

jBEAM continues to evolve over time as new features are implemented in response to customers' requests and specific application requirements. This is why jBEAM includes a changelog to provide users with an overview of the software's history. We will continuously update this changelog to reflect the future development of jBEAM. If you have any questions about specific features, or if you would like to suggest a new feature, please contact our support desk.

Revised Blockdiagram

The block diagram window (menu path Window → Blockdiagram) was completely revised:

  • Nodes and links are highlighted on click
  • Elements have a context menu
  • Zoom is possible with „Ctrl + mouse wheel“
  • With a click on a link the corresponding channel will be highlighted in Spreadsheet and Explorer, if the window synchronization is active.

Master Pages for Header and Footer

For header and footer, several master pages with different display options can be defined:

  • Distinction between even/uneven/title page and portrait/landscape mode
  • Limitation to printing, screen or report possible 
  • Display in foreground (e.g. for confidential logo) or background

Component Collection

For a better overview in large projects it is possible to combine producer components to collections. This option is available in the context menu when selecting multiple components in the explorer (“New component collection …”). Alternatively, it is possible to use the menu path Math → Conversions → Component Collection. In difference to component groups the contained elements of component collections and their generated data objects are still visible in the project.

Excel Importer

The Excel Importer has been completely revised. It is now possible to import multiple data blocks, also from different sheets. The tab “File Structure” offers different types of data blocks (meta data, channel block, matrix, single channel, single value), that can be added as needed and configured separately under “Settings”.

Channel Names and Unit Mapping – Definition of unknown Units

The channel names and unit mapping has been complemented with the new function unit replacement. Similar to the normal mapping, a replacement file can be selected. This is used to replace any unit name (e.g. kilovolts) by a unit known to jBEAM (e.g. kV). However, there is no conversion at this point. The now known units can be converted by the normal Name/unit mapping coming next.

Font Templates

It is now possible to create Font Templates (available through menu path Services → System → Template Manager). Font family, style and size can be set. The defined template will then be available at the font selection in component dialogs. This is a way to define a uniform font layout for all analyses, that can easily be used for corporate design. 

New Option “at Sampling Points” for axis ticks

The configuration for “Major ticks” at axes provides the new option “at Sampling Points”. This enables a better axes presentation of string channels.

Value labels without intersections

Intersection of value labels can now be avoided. If the option “avoid intersections” is active, labels will be suppressed in a way that the remaining ones are not intersecting each other. Therefore, the labels are better readable.

Multiple Data analysis instances at the same time

It is now possible to display multiple Data analysis windows at the same time (e.g. via the menu path Window → Miscellaneous → Data analysis). The x-axes can be synchronized. 

Synchronize all data analysis windows: moving one graph in a data analysis causes the same axes shift in the other data analysis (the example shows shifting and zooming of the x-axis).

Measure Module OPC Unified Architecture

This new measurement component for automation engineering (e.g. via Siemens S7) supports the current standard OPC UA. Reading (via input objects) and writing (via output objects) access is supported. Access authorization is considered.

New layout


The layout of jBEAM has been revised completely. The color scheme and icons have been redesigned in particular.

Master page for header and footer


It is now possible to define master pages for the header and footer of a graphic page. The user can choose between different types and conditions, like: title page, even/odd page, portrait and landscape format. There is also the option to consider the master pages only for printing or the presentation via screen. Additionally, the master page can be located in front (e.g. for watermark) or in the background.

Redesign of Multi file importer (pt. I)

Import/ Export
When importing multiple files, it is now possible to choose a directory for the export by hand. Alternatively, the currently selected directory of the exporter can be used.

Redesign of Multi file importer (pt. II)

Because of this new feature the entire dialog has been adapted. Therefore, the definition of the action inputs is now located on top right, within the tab Automation. The buttons for control are now on the right side, next to Actions.

Definition of unknown units

Channel name and Unit mapping service

For the channel name and unit mapping service the new feature Unit replacement has been added. Analogous to the normal mapping, a mapping file can be selected here.
However, there is no conversion of unknown units, it is now possible to declare unsupported units, which will be replaced by their respective supported unit.

The entries of the mapping file have to match the following scheme:

"old" = "new" or old = new

Image import with preferred resolution

Pixel images can now be reduced to a defined size during the import. The format of the image is maintained during the process. If there is an unknown format, the image will be saved as a lossless png file. The resolution preferences can be selected in the Print/Report tab in the Preferences.

Measure module OPC unified architecture

Under the menu entry Measure -> Measure Modules there is the new component OPC UA. It is a point of intersection between the data objects and a server.The structure of the server is readout and shown as a node. A specific root node can be selected to use only a part of the whole structure. If the signals are used as input items, their values will be written into channels with every step of the trigger. If signals are used as output items, the output value of the data objects can be written on the server. Depending on the access authorization, restrictions may occur.

Align graphic objects on page

There is a new entry in the context menu of graphic elements: Align on page. The command can also be found in the menu under Graph Editor. If more than one element is selected, the objects will be aligned on the graphic page as a group. Their original order will not be changed.

Alignment of values in table


The alignment of values has been redesigned. The new panel Layout contains icons to select the alignment (e.g. left, right) intuitively. Additionally lines can be hidden and the background color adjusted. A real-time preview is also available.

New filter icons

The filter icons have been redesigned as follows:

  1. opens the filter dialog (also possible, if no filter is active)

  2. activates and deactivates the configured filter

  3. selects all nodes, that match the filter criteria

The icons also have been changed in the table window.

In the filter configurations it is now possible to determine via operations, how the configured filters should be linked together.

Configuration of multiple diagrams

Data explorer
The data explorer now supports the joint configuration of multiple map graphs. First, all relevant diagrams should be marked and Modify should be selected in the context menu (right click). A new dialog opens, where all configuration possibilities can be selected collectively according to the graph type.

Layout definition for axes and diagrams

Under the tab Graphic elements it is now possible to define layouts for diagrams and axes. To provide a better overview, the former settings have been incorporated into the new tabs: Graphic objects, Diagrams and Axes.

The tab Diagrams contains - in addition to the former table (line color, width, type, marker, frame color, fill color, and marker type) - the possibility to determine a Default configuration for curve labels, value labels, and data types. Furthermore, there's a seperate tab for Isoline diagrams, which offers a selection of maps and the corresponding options.

The Data Analysis window can be opened via context menu by either clicking on the relevant data object in the explorer tree or on the graph in the graphic window.The layout of graph and table can now be changed via the icons in the title bar:

Individual file names for reports in Multi file import


This component now offers the possibility to specify the file name for the generated report. Therefore, the field Export file kernel was added. The file name (without suffix) can be generated via a formula. The input can be done with the help of the Formula Editor.

The naming of the file proceeds according to the following scheme: <import file kernel>

To maintain the former file name with the following scheme: <orig export file kernel> (<import file kernel>) the new checkbox consider file name of exporter has to be marked.

Drag & drop of channels and histogram

Quick view with double cursor

It is easier to add and delete channels. This can be done by dragging an existing channel from the data explorer and dropping it into the graph area of the quick view or by marking the channel (in the spreadsheet or graphic) and pushing the delete button.

In the spreadsheet area of the quick view the new column type Histogram can be activated (right click on the head of the spreadsheet and select Histogram). The selected curve is drawn in the histogram mode. There are 2 options possible (see figure).

In addition to the order of the file system, files can also be sorted by the alteration date in the dialog.

The maximum amount of columns in the result matrix is now configurable. If the adjusted number of columns isn't enough, the remaining values can be written into the last column.

This new component Complex channel part extractor enables the extraction of single parts of a complex channel.

Copying diagram parameters


It is now possible to copy diagram parameters via context menu and apply them to other graphs. Additionally, the parameters to be copied can be selected.


Speechbox / formatted text / plain text

It is possible to integrate several hyperlinks to the text of speechboxes and into formatted text. Single hyperlinks can be embedded into plain text. Therefore, the passage that should become a link has to be selected. That activates the Link button.

HBM QuantumX - improvement of scan functionality

Measure modules

The scan functionality of synchronized devices has been improved. Furthermore, scale properties of the measurement channels are now listed within the channel properties.

In addition, new dialogs have been introduced. Therefore, the time source can be changed (by selecting auto or ntp) and the measure rate domain can be switched from classic (e.g.9.6kHz, 19.2kHz) to decimal mode (e.g. 10kHz, 20kHz).

New graphic object: Line List

Graphic objects

With the new graphic object Line List x and y coordinates of the start and end point of lines can handed over via channels (also manually, if the coordinate doesn't change). The indizes specify, which points should be linked to each other. Therefore, any shape possible can be drawn.

Integer channel with 32 bit range

Bit arithmetic
Additional to the generation of single bit channels, an integer channel with up to 32bit range can be created. This channel results from each configured bit. Bit 1 is the lowest valued bit, 32 bit the highest one.

This new component is used to synchronize complete measurements. For selected producers or data sources, the desired offset shift for the individual tests can be specified in the form of a GroupOfValues.

In this new component, individual values of existing channels can be changed manually.

Detailed properties of channel groups

The properties of channel groups are itemized in a more detailed way. Additional columns for each single channel of a certain group are depicted. Therefore, the information are more individual.

Folders for Project templates and Multimedia


Within the Folder tab additional folders for project templates and multimedia files can be indicated. The registered folders will be quoted as favorites in the respective import and export dialogs.

Display time of tooltips


Within the Dialogs tab there is the opportunity to adjust the display time of tooltips via time designation. If the option hide tooltip after is disabled, a tooltip will be depicted as long as the mouse cursor remains on a certain text. Therefore, even longer tooltips can be read easily.

Import of changed mapping files


This new functionality is located in the Project-File tab. Like the import of changed data files the related request can be replied automatically during opening the project files.

Change format of import files

The data source manager now offers the option to change format. It enables to change the currently used importer while changing the imported data. Therefore, a test can be easily replaced by another test in a different file format. The settings of the format remain during the alternation, while importer-specific settings cannot be applied.

Importer that support channel name and unit mapping offer the additional option to create new mapping files (option 2). After appropriate selection a memory dialog opens. The memory path is automatically displayed and the file can be edited as usual or filled with content.
