Winterthur, 3 November 2015 – Kistler is adding a new member to its 4080A family of piezoresistive absolute pressure sensors for motor racing applications: the Type 4080AT combined pressure and temperature sensor. The new M6 miniature absolute pressure sensor is another Kistler success story: the dimensions are reduced, the compensated temperature range is extended to 150°C – and at the same time, measurement accuracy is enhanced.
Suitable for universal use, this sensor features a temperature probe and integrated signal conditioning. It was specifically designed to cope with harsh ambient conditions in motor racing as well as demanding requirements on the test bench, and it can be installed directly in the vehicle. Type 4080AT supports reliable monitoring of pressure in hydraulic, cooling water or oil circuits, so users enjoy benefits such as early detection of problems, optimization of system design and real-time monitoring of critical conditions for operation. Type 4080AT will be available from the end of 2015 onwards.
Temperature Probe and Integrated Signal Conditioning
Type 4080AT features a high-precision piezoresistive pressure module. Thanks to a media-separated measuring element, the sensor can operate reliably with maximum measuring accuracy and signal quality – criteria that are crucial in motor racing. The additional integrated PT1000 probe allows dynamic temperature measurements in liquids at up to 200°C. The 4080AT features maximum flexibility for connection to a data acquisition system thanks to a unique concept that includes integrated signal conditioning and an analog voltage output from 0.2 to 4.4 VDC (pressure) and 0.5 to 4.5 VDC (temperature).
Vehicle Integration Optimized, Compensated Temperature Range Extended
Seamless integration into the vehicle was a top priority when Kistler developed its concept for the Type 4080AT. Consistent development work reduced the dimensions to the minimum while enhancing measurement accuracy. Optimized calculation algorithms also mean that the compensated temperature range is now increased to a maximum operating temperature of 150°C – so the sensor meets the demanding requirements for today's onboard sensor technology.
Universal Use on Race Circuits and Test Benches
With its 5, 10 and 20 bar pressure ranges, the Type 4080AT is suitable for universal use – for example, in low pressure applications in hydraulic, cooling water or oil circuits. Like Type 4080A, Type 4080AT is FIA-homologated and can be supplied in variants with a LEMO plug connector or a flylead cable; the product is available as from the end of 2015.
Compatible with Kistler's Entire 4080A Family
Development of the 4080AT was based on the M6 absolute pressure sensor (Type 4080A) that has established its position in motor racing. This ensures that the new sensor is mechanically and electrically compatible with the other members of the 4080A family.
