The FSI interrogator is the data acquisition unit for the new fiber optic temperature monitoring system from Kistler. It allows highly accurate temperature measurement of an EV battery in a high voltage (HV) environment for example. Fiber segment interferometry (FSI) is a patented technology developed by Kistler for distributed temperature measurements along the full length of the fiber. This unique optical technology measures changes in the sensing segments and, by decoupling mechanical strain from opto-thermal effects, offers a solution for demanding temperature measurements, e.g. in the automotive sector. By measuring temperature values along the full length of the fiber, you can replace a large number of HV thermocouples with a single Kistler FSI temperature sensor. Up to four multi-segment FSI temperature sensors can be connected to a single FSI interrogator – with each fiber containing up to 22 measurement segments customized to your battery layout. Data can be sampled at up to 25 kHz and processed by the FSI interrogator to provide detailed measurements of temperature across the surface of your battery. The user interface provides intuitive real-time visualization of data, including heat maps. To communicate with your environment, the interrogator supports CAN out and Ethernet with XCP plus Precision Time Protocol (PTP) to synchronize data with other devices. The user interface "Kistler Cockpit" allows different Kistler DAQ units to be setup and visualized from a single PC.
