Euro NCAP approves the WorldSID-50M crash test dummy developed by Kistler and Cellbond

Heidelberg, March 2026 – The Kistler Group and Cellbond announce that the jointly developed WorldSID-50M crash test dummy has been officially approved for use in Euro NCAP testing. Formal updates to the G002-2 protocol on the Euro NCAP website are expected in the coming weeks, while approval for use has already been granted.

This approval marks an important milestone for both organizations and reinforces their shared commitment to supporting the highest standards of vehicle safety testing and performance assessment across Europe and beyond.

WorldSID-50M is a 50th-percentile male side-impact anthropomorphic test device (ATD) used in testing by Euro NCAP.
The WorldSID-50M crash test dummy (ATD) jointly developed by Kistler and Cellbond has been officially approved for use in testing by Euro NCAP. Its high biofidelity and advanced instrumentation make it suitable for regulatory testing, consumer safety programs, and research applications.

Advanced crash test dummy (ATD) for side-impact safety evaluation

The WorldSID 50th percentile male (WorldSID-50M) crash test dummy is primarily used in side-impact crash testing to evaluate vehicle safety and occupant protection. With its high biofidelity and advanced instrumentation, the dummy enables precise measurement of loads and accelerations acting on the human body during a crash. This makes it suitable for regulatory testing, consumer safety programs, and research applications. Automotive manufacturers use the WorldSID-50M crash test dummy in the development and validation of side airbags, seat structures and restraint systems. The ATD also plays a key role in certification tests and is widely adopted in global safety programs.

High-precision measurement technology and flexible configuration

The WorldSID-50M crash test dummy features modular construction, detailed sensing capabilities and compatibility with digital data acquisition systems, allowing engineers to capture highly accurate measurement data during vehicle safety testing. The ATD is a critical tool in both compliance testing and innovative safety engineering and is configured in accordance with ISO 15830 and UN ECE R135 requirements for side-impact testing. It is available with integrated Digital Transducer Interface (DTI) technology of Kistler as well as additional configurations through Cellbond.

Key characteristics of the WorldSID 50th percentile male (WorldSID-50M) include:

  • High biofidelity for realistic human injury simulation
  • Advanced sensor integration for precise biomechanical measurements
  • Compatibility with digital data acquisition systems
  • Modular configuration for various test scenarios

Strengthening a long-standing engineering partnership in vehicle safety
