DTI technology simplifies crash test instrumentation while increasing flexibility and measurement capability. By digitizing sensor signals directly at the source, DTI reduces wiring complexity, improves signal quality, and enables highly efficient installation of even the most demanding measurement setups. At the core of the system is an intelligent digital bus architecture. Each bus connection supports up to 12 measurement channels, with sensor signals converted into digital data by compact digitization modules (DiMods). Depending on the application, these DiMods are either integrated directly into the sensor or implemented using dedicated Kistler DTI integration solutions. The digitized measurement data is transmitted to a central Kistler DTI data recorder located inside the dummy, where all channels are synchronized and prepared for high-speed Ethernet communication with the data interface unit. The interface connects all in-vehicle DTI systems to the central data acquisition network. A key advantage of the DTI architecture is its simplicity: a single cable provides data communication, synchronization, trigger signals, and power supply between the dummy and the onboard data acquisition system. This significantly reduces cable routing effort, shortens setup times, and increases system reliability during crash testing.
