Punching

Punching involves shearing out a shaped piece from a thin material (such as sheet metal) by means of a press with a special tool. The tool consists of a top part (punch) and a bottom part (die). The process is monitored by incorporating force or strain sensors in the tool, as close possible to the shearing operation. Force sensors can be positioned as follows:
