About ten years ago the robust sensor concept Typ 6613C2... was developed for monitoring cylinder pressures and controlling gas engines for the US gas pipeline industry. This development focused on service life, stability and cost-effectiveness. The design also had to be suitable for the industrial environment. From 2002 onwards sensors were used in larger quantities for retrofitting gas engines; approximately 4 000 cylinders having now been equipped with Kistler sensors. In the meantime this sensor was consistently evolved for other applications as well. Reliable solutions based on the field-proven measuring element are now available at reasonable cost for virtually all large engines.
