Contactless Sensors

Contactless sensor
These sensors function as a preloaded strain sensor and are screwed into the mold insert or into a core. The mold cavity pressure is related to the compressive strain of the steel. To ensure this the front of the sensor must be in contact with the bottom of the mounting bore and the thread must turn smoothly.

Important Areas of Sensor Hole

Important Areas of Sensor Hole

The following notes for mounting contactfree sensors must be observed:

  1. Bearing surface clean and flat
  2. Provide a small hole in the center
  3. Ream mounting hole with surface finishing tool
  4. Ensure thread is greased and turns easily
  5. Ensure large enough diameter for socket wrench

Contactless sensors
Strain sensors are always mounted directly under the cavity wall in the steel of the mold. Therefore no witness marks are visible and the temperature field in the surface of the cavity is not affected. The Type 9247A with M5 thread is shown as an example.

Sensor Hole
Center hole and thread. Ensure that there is a small hole in the center to prevent any machining irregularities pressing onto sensor face. Grease thread.

Installation
Grease front of sensor sparingly and introduce into hole. Connect preload tester (e.g. Type 5991) and tighten the sensor with tubular socket wrench Type 1300A9. The required preloaded charge is –20 000 pC.
