Kistler cables are characterized by high thermal and chemical resistance. The electrical characteristics are optimized for low noise, since the electrical connection between piezoelectric sensor and charge amplifier has to be particularly heavily insulated (approximately 1013 Ω). The same requirements also apply to all connector pairs.
Cable movement produces very small charges on the surfaces of the conductors (triboelectric effect) that falsify measurement. This is prevented by special intermediate layers coated with graphite.
To also protect the cables against mechanical damage, they are provided with a flexible steel or stainless steel sheath.
