Forming

Forming involves non-cutting plastic shaping of metallic materials. This is achieved through the processes of deep drawing, punching, rolling, stamping and forging. In all of these the force involved is considered to be a process variable that is important in determining the quality. Process control is generally performed in real time and relates to monitoring of the tool and of machine safety.

Rolling

Rolling

Measurement of the force distribution on a measuring roll in rolling mills to determine the flatness of sheet metal (flatness control).

Punching

Punching

SlimLine 9130B-9136B miniature force sensors or 9243-9249 strain sensors incorporated in the tool measure and monitor the punching forces. This allows timely detection of, for example, a feed failure or double feed.

Deep drawing

Deep drawing
SlimLine 9130B-9136B miniature sensors and 8152B... structure-borne noise sensors monitor the sheet metal forming force in order to guarantee an accurately shaped workpiece.

Stamping

Stamping
Stamping of sheet metal components or minting of coins. Force or strain sensors monitor the press force.

Forging

Forging
9232...9235 force-strain sensors mounted on the surface of the machine monitor the maximum permissible forging force to safeguard the press against overload.

Type 9233B force-strain sensors monitor the maximum forging force to safeguard the machine and the tool against overload.
