Punching

Punching involves shearing out a shaped piece from a thin material (such as sheet metal) by means of a press with a special tool. The tool consists of a top part (punch) and a bottom part (die). The process is monitored by incorporating force or strain sensors in the tool, as close possible to the shearing operation. Force sensors can be positioned as follows:

Force sensors

A: Mounting of cartridges containing SlimLine or structure-borne noise sensors in the top part of the press.

B: Incorporation of a (Type 9001A ...Type 9071A ) load washer in the top part of the tool (punch).

C: Incorporation of SlimLine Type 9130B ... 9137B force sensors in the die.

D: Incorporation of Type 9243B longitudinal measuring pins in the die or punch.
