Engine calibration has become an important part of vehicle development. Devising and optimizing open- and closed-loop control functions for engine operation is one element of application engineering for a particular engine/vehicle configuration. Engine calibration yields optimized data tables and functions that are stored in the engine control unit (ECU). This calibration job is carried out on test stands as well as in the overall environment of the test vehicle. Both steps are usually performed to enable results of the required quality to be achieved as quickly as possible at minimum cost.
