Research and Development

The evaluation and analysis of manufacturing methods can be based on different process variables. Cutting, for example, can be examined with the aid of measurands such as acceleration or acoustic emission. Another example is tool life, which is still frequently determined by the involved method of measuring the width of wear marks.

One measurand for evaluating production processes that impresses both researchers and practitioners through its ease of application and considerable predictive power is force.

Evaluating production processes

Mechanical processes generate forces in one or more directions as well as torques. The great strength of Kistler force measurement products is their ability to acquire these variables extremely accurately and responsively, yet largely eliminate measurement error introduced by environmental factors. They therefore provide viable measurement results for process analysis, which is a strenght of Kistler force measurement products. Cutting forces on, for example, a machine tool can only be measured if suitable instruments can be interposed in the direct load path. The wealth of experience and extensive know-how accumulated by Kistler over the past 40 years in this sector are now available to our customers in the form of tried and tested force measurement systems.
