Adapting Engines for Gas Exchange Analysis

Adapting Engines for Gas Exchange Analysis

Gas exchange analysis is now following the same pattern as cylinder pressure analysis by developing into a standard process allowing even greater exploitation of the potential of an engine. This course answers the most important questions about sensor installation for gas exchange analysis on the intake and exhaust side of an engine.

Objective:

On completion of the course the participant will have a sound knowledge of the signal quality requirements for gas exchange analysis, and of the effects of low-pressure measuring points on the gas dynamics of the engine and on the measured pressure signals. He or she will also be able to evaluate the adaptation options for common measurement tasks.

Target group:

Employees concerned with the various aspects of pressure measurement points for gas exchange analysis, for example the measuring positions, choice of sensors, design of mounting points and measurement preparation. It is assumed that participants will already have practical experience with internal combustion engines.

Contents:

• Use of gas exchange analysis and examples of engine applications
• Intake and exhaust measurement requirements
• Gas dynamics, effect of sensor mounting and their location
• Sensor characteristics
• Range of sensors, vibration damping and cooling
• Design of measuring points
• Handling, mounting and maintenance of pressure sensors, practical exercises
• Zeroing of pressure signals, practical exercises

Suitable packaging of sensors and engine adaptation are covered with reference to different case studies. The training course conveys the theoretical fundamentals and practical know-how for preparing the measuring points for gas exchange analysis. During the hands-on sessions the participants practice on training setups of typical measuring chains.
