DEFORM™

Design Environment for FORMing

DEFORM™ is simulation program for the simulation of metal forming processes, heat treatment and machining.


The Kistler-IGeL company has been acting as a distribution partner for this specialised software in Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland since 1994.

Typical applications for the program are the following:

DEFORM™ Niet

• All kinds of extrusion processes (filled or hollow, forwards, backwards or transverse)

• Closed and open die forging

• Wire drawing and shape drawing

• Deep drawing / ironing

• Cupping with or without mandrel

• Compression and heading

DEFORM™ Kurbelwelle

• Flat rolling and profile rolling

• Joining by forming

• Cutting and piercing

• Die sinking

• Powder compaction

including thermal conductivity in the workpiece and the heat transfer to the tools.

The determination of the tool stress including shrink fits, based on the stresses involved in the forming process, can supply useful information for tool optimisation.

The DEFORM™/HT module makes it possible to simulate the following thermal treatment processes:

• Heating (conventional and inductive)
• Carburisation
• Annealing and normalising
• Quenching and hardening. 

DEFORM™ Machining

The DEFORM™/Machining module makes it possible to simulate the following machining processes:

• Drilling
• Turning
• Milling
• Wear and tear, burr formation, residual stress.
