Kistler Group Awarded Major Contract in India

Switzerland, 19.04.2010

The Kistler Group has been awarded the contract for instrumentation of three crash centers for the Indian automobile industry. The client for this substantial deal worth almost twenty million Swiss francs is the autonomous project under Department of Heavy Industries – National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP). This means last year's acquisitions by the Business Unit Vehicles of the Kistler Group are already paying off.

The Indian automobile industry is accelerating, with over-average rates of growth at home and abroad. To enable these carmakers to hold their own on the world market, their products have to meet the international environmental and safety standards. For this reason the Indian government set up the National Automobile Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP), which will establish three crash centers to the latest standards in Chennai, Pune and Delhi. The instrumentation of these centers was put out to international tender.

The Kistler Group's bid submitted against strong global competition won on both technological and cost grounds.

Last year's acquisition of MSC Automotive, Corrsys-Datron and KT Automotive has particularly strengthened the group's position as a provider of turnkey measurement solutions for the automobile industry. As remarked by Rolf Sonderegger, CEO of the Kistler Group, the award of this sizable contract to Kistler confirms the correctness of its acquisition strategy and documents the considerable business potential in emerging markets such as India and China. "We are shaping ourselves into a system partner for the automotive industry and are offering customer solutions and services from a single source.”

The crash centers in Chennai (GARC), Pune (ARAI) and Delhi (iCAT) will be built and equipped over the next 18 months.
