The Kistler Group has acquired Corrsys-Datron Sensorsysteme GmbH based in Wetzlar, Germany, in an all-stock transaction on 30 April 2009. This acquisition enables Kistler to round off its range of measuring systems for vehicle dynamic testing in automobile development. The optical technology of Corrsys is a further asset to the Kistler Group.

Principal office of Corrsys-Datron GmbH in Wetzlar, Germany

Corrsys-Datron Sensorsysteme GmbH was established in 1993 and has a workforce of 50 on the Wetzlar site. The company is a leading manufacturer of measuring systems for vehicle dynamic testing. Corrsys sensors and data acquisition systems are used for a wide variety of tests on the vehicle. Their main area of application is longitudinal and transverse dynamics.

The non-contact sensors from Corrsys are based on optical Correvit technology. The acquisition of Corrsys complements the Kistler Group's technical portfolio to strengthen its position as market leader in dynamic over-the-road vehicle testing.

Aquaplaning testing with optical sensor technology

As emphasized by Rolf Sonderegger – CEO of the Kistler Group – Corrsys is another important building block in the structure of the Business Unit Vehicles: "The measuring systems from Corrsys are often entry-level products for initial driveability measurements. The fact that their target customers are potential subsequent purchasers of Kistler measuring wheels broadens our portfolio as a supplier of complete vehicle dynamic testing solutions."

Dr. Norbert Lauinger – former majority shareholder of Corrsys – is delighted that the chances of his former start-up achieving lasting success are greatly increased by being integrated into the Kistler Group. "At the present time it is increasingly important to offer comprehensive solutions from a single source. In this sense Kistler and Corrsys joining forces is a logical step in the process of market development."

The sixth product center of the Kistler Group is being established in Wetzlar in the German state of Hessen. Corrsys will continue to be managed by former directors Klaus Weimert and Peter Fleckenstein. Dr. Thomas Wagner – Manager of the Business Unit Vehicles – is responsible for integrating Corrsys into the Kistler Group.

The takeover of Corrsys increases the Kistler workforce to about 1 000.
