Cylinder Pressure

The piezoelectric principle has gained worldwide acceptance for precision measurement of cylinder pressure. For research engines Kistler supplies miniature cylinder pressure sensors and highly accurate signal processing electronics.

For development projects miniature sensors are used. These are available in various forms to allow a high standard of measurement to be achieved with minimum adaptation. Other solutions completely avoid the need for cylinder head modification:

Kistler incorporates the sensor in a spark plug or glow plug.
The company provides measuring spark plugs in numerous different sizes, and with various types of electrode and heat values.

For diesel engines Kistler supplies serviceable glow plugs and matching adapters with built-in pressure sensor. This measurement method also allows safe and cost-effective access to the combustion chamber.

Kistler innovations:

  • Ultra-miniature water-cooled precision sensor (Type 6041...), also available as probe model (Type 6043...).
  • Indication through spark plug and glow plug bores enables development and benchmarking on virtually all standard engines.
  • Indicator probes for high-performance engines (Type 6081...).
  • Automatic sensor identification PiezoSmart(PiezoSmart brochure).
  • Individual amplifiers and amplifier systems, setup directly on the machine or at external pc.
  • Services and calibration systmes for pressure sensors and amplifiers.
