A maintenance-free sensor installation ensures reliable measurement signals. Attention must therefore be paid to the sensor hole and correct installation. The hole must be machine with a tolerance of H7. The sensor itself is installed without preload in order to ensure that only the force acting in the cavity is transferred directly to the front of the sensor.
Depending on their size, direct sensors are supplied with either mounting nut or spacer sleeve. The information about the sensor hole and installation is explained using sensor Type 6157BA:
Important Areas of Sensor HoleThe following notes for installing direct sensors must be observed:
 - Sensor contact surface must be flat and perpendicular
- H7 hole to center sensor
- Chamfer protects O-ring during installation
- Not to be used to center sensor
- Sharp edges reduce witness mark on part

Hole for Sensor and Mounting Nut

Sensor Hole Spark erode (EDM) or grind a hole with H7 tolerance in the hardened steel. Match the length of the bore L = 8 mm to the length of measuring shaft of the sensor. The size of the thread matches the included mounting nut. Check the centering and alignment details shown on the drawing.

Installation Install sensor with extraction tool Type 1315A. Introduce the cable laterally into the slotted mounting nut and tighten the nut with wrench Type 1383. Do not over-tighten nut to avoid preloading sensor.

Hole for Sensor and Spacer Sleeve

The smaller sensors with ø4 mm collar, i.e. Types 6158A..., 6178A..., 6182B..., 6183A... and 6189A... are preferably installed with spacer sleeves. These can be cut-to-length and simplify the installation.

Installation Install sensor with extraction tool Type 1315A. Cut the sleeve and ensure that it is slightly over-length; Then grind to size. Insert the cable laterally into the slotted spacer sleeve and fit the sleeve into the bore. A cover or mold platen holds the sensor in place with the sleeve. Ensure a clearance of 0,01 ... 0,03 mm to avoid preloading sensor.
